Nevion video transport equipment is ideally suited to the requirements of telemedicine. Its outstanding video quality, with no discernable compression artifacts, and only 45ms of latency for a complete encode/decode cycle, create an industry-leading solution for interactivity and image clarity.
In October 2009 Ventura modules transmitted realtime HD video through more than 20,000 kilometers of IP links, enabling doctors in Daejeon, South Korea to observe and comment upon laproscopic surgery as it was being performed in Trondheim, Norway. Although the transmission spanned 18 connected networks and employed switches from multiple vendors, the connection provided interactive high definition video, with extremely low er latency than would have occurred in a satellite connection, directly on power-up. The live transmission traversed a greater distance and a greater number of interconnected nodes than any previous telemedicine application.
